Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon announced Wednesday morning that the team has agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with forward Grigori Denisenko.

“We are thrilled to officially sign Grigori to an entry-level deal for the upcoming 2021-22 season,” Tallon said. “He is a highly skilled and hard-working young player who has a bright future in our organization. Although he will be ineligible to play games for us during the 2020 postseason, we look forward to having him challenge for a position on the Panthers roster next season.”

Denisenko, 20, has spent the last two seasons in the KHL playing for Yaroslavl Lokomotiv. In 38 games this year, he posted six goals and 12 points. This doubled his point total from the 2018-19 season. He also played in the World Juniors representing Team Russia, putting up three goals and nine points in seven games. It was his second time representing Team Russia at the World Juniors, with the first coming in 2019. He was also extremely productive at the tournament that year, with four goals and nine points in seven games.

The young Russian forward was selected in the first round (15th overall) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft by the Panthers. While his KHL numbers don't look impressive, it is important to remember his two seasons spent in the league came as an 18 and 19-year-old. He has an extremely bright future ahead of him.
