Ak Bars Kazan is gearing up for the 2020-21 KHL season and is making big waves with multiple signings.

The first big new came earlier today as they signed a one-year deal with KHL veteran Nigel Dawes. The 35-year-old veteran, recently one of the top 5 paid players in the KHL will see a mere 60 million rubles for this year (approx. $844k USD).

Minnesota prospect Alexander Khovanov has also inked a one year-deal with the club, with different source reporting his salary at either 8 or 10 million rubles. Khovanov will likely contend for a spot at the Wild training camp in 2021.

The club is still deadlocked in its negotiations with Detroit Red Wings prospect Evgeny Svechnikov. While it was believed that Svechnikov needed a "reboot" in Russia after failing to impress the Red Wings in the last four years, Svechnikov is balking at Ak Bars two-year offer and is trying to sign a contract that will allow him to play half a season and then return to North America in December for the start of the next NHL season. Svechnikov is also reportedly seeking more money than the Kazan club is willing to offer, especially with a hard salary cap in place.

Ak Bars has a history as one of the most successful teams in the league. They have won three Gagarin Cups and had qualified for the playoffs every year since the league began its existence in 2008-09.
