In recent weeks, the odds that
Timo Meier will be traded by the San Jose Sharks have gone up, especially given the news that there have been no contract talks between the two sides.
During Tuesday's edition of 'Insider Trading' on TSN, Pierre LeBrun mentioned that among the teams that are interested in
Timo Meier are the Buffalo Sabres, who have been in contact with the Sharks.
"Obviously, the contenders would make sense, Toronto would make sense, Carolina has some interest because again they see Meier as a long-term fit, but also a team like the Buffalo Sabres has reached out to San Jose, this could be the type of player that has interest from teams that are not even sitting in a playoff spot so it's kind of a unique case here with
Timo Meier." LeBrun said.
Meier, 26, is having a solid year for the San Jose Sharks and that should help them maximize the return in a potential deal before the NHL's trade deadline on March 3rd.

In 49 games this season, the Herisau (Switzerland) native has 48 points (28 goals, 20 assists), 21 penalty minutes and is a minus-13. Meier is set to become a restricted free agent this summer and has a qualifying offer of $10 million. It's likely that a team that acquires Meier will work out an extension for less than what his qualifying offer is worth.
