Per Chicago Blackhawks reporter Mark Lazerus, the Hawks will sign defenceman Wyatt Kalynuk to an entry-level contract.

Kalynuk, 23, has spent the last three seasons playing for the University of Wisconsin. In 36 games with the team this year, he posted seven goals and 21 assists.

“At this point, Wyatt thinks right now it's better for him to turn pro, and I support that,” said Wisconsin head coach Tony Granato. “As much as we'd like to have him back here, part of college hockey and part of recruiting great players is the fact that you understand that, unfortunately, sometimes they are ready before their four years expire.”

Kalynuk was Wisconsin's captain this season. The smooth skating defenceman has gotten some pretty good hype from scouts, including one who said he reminds him of New York Islanders defenceman Nick Leddy.

In total, Kalynuk played in 110 games for Wisconsin, posting 19 goals and 78 points. The Virden, Manitoba native was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the seventh round (196 overall) of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
