While goaltender Carey Price has insisted his hope is to once again play for the Montreal Canadiens before he officially retires, a new revelation by wife Angela appears to make that more unlikely than ever. In a response to a question on her Instagram account, Angela stated the family plans to move out of Montreal completely in the near future.
"Is your family staying in Montreal, or planning on living year-round in Kelowna?," asked a follower.
"We will move back to the west," replied Angela. "We both want to be close to our families. It's looking like we will most likely make the move this summer."
Carey was born and raised in British Columbia. Angela is from Washington state, meaning a move to B.C. puts her much closer to home.
While this move certainly doesn't make it impossible that Price could attempt a return, it sure makes it seem less likely. He underwent knee surgery in July of 2021, and then entered the NHL/NHLPA's Player Assistance program. In August of 2022, Montreal GM Kent Hughes announced Price would not play this season, and that playing again would likely require another surgery. Price later disclosed in an interview with The Athletic that the contemplated surgery was an osteochondral autograft transfer, but that the odds of success were so low that he may not pursue it, given the risk to his daily quality of life should it not to succeed.
