Avalanche 2018 first rounder among five placed on waivers for December 8th, one for contract termination
The waiver wire was busy on December 8th as a total of five players were put on it according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, including one for the purpose of a contract termination.
Kevin Rooney (Calgary), Tyler Benson (Edmonton), Martin Kaut (Colorado) and Ryan Carpenter (New York Rangers) have all been placed on waivers for the purpose of being assigned to their respected AHL clubs.
Rooney, 29, has appeared in 17 games for the Flames this season, putting up one assist, seven penalty minutes and is a minus-two.
Benson, 24, has only played in two games this season after recently returning from a knee injury that forced him to miss the first two months of the 2022-23 campaign. In those two games, he has no points, no penalty minutes and has an even-rating.
Kaut, 23, has three points (one goal, two assists), two penalty minutes and is a minus-two in 18 games for the Avalanche this season. Kaut being placed on waivers likely indicated that one of their injured forwards could be ready to return soon.
As for Ryan Carpenter, 31, he's skated in 21 of New York's 28 games this season, recording three points (one goal, two assists), ten penalty minutes and is a minus-five.

Additionally, the Boston Bruins have placed 23-year-old defenceman Victor Berglund on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination.
The Ornskoldsvik (Sweden) native was a seventh round pick of the Bruins in 2017. In only five games this season for the AHL's Providence Bruins, he had one assist, four penalty minutes and was a minus-five.
