Frank Seravalli rips into Jack Edwards: 'You actually sound drunk'

Former TSN and now Daily Faceoff hockey insider Frank Seravalli has seemingly had it with Boston Bruins play-by-play guy Jack Edwards. Seravalli has publicly called Edwards out for comments the broadcaster made about Pat Maroon during a game Tuesday night between the Bruins and Tampa Bay Lighting.

"A blowhard broadcaster fat-shaming a professional athlete and three-time Stanley Cup champion. [Pat Maroon] doesn't deserve that. No one does," said Seravalli.

"Go home, Jack. You actually sound drunk," he added.

Seravalli isn't the only person of note to criticize Edwards' latest antics. Well-known player agent Alan Walsh called Edwards a disgrace.

"Jack Edwards is a disgrace the way he gets off attacking players for things that have nothing to do with how they play hockey," said Walsh, who is not Maroon's agent, by the way.

Edwards went on for around 40 seconds during Tuesday night's broadcast about how overweight or fat Pat Maroon is, without ever saying those words. The video is below, but here's a transcript of his statement after Maroon had control of the puck.

"Listed at 238 pounds, ha, that was day one of training camp, haha," said Edwards sarcastically. "I've got a feeling he's had a few more pizzas between then and now."

"Yeah, that's before pre-game," said Edwards' partner Andy Brickley.

"Yeah!" said Edwards. "Fasting!"

"Inadvertent fasting for Pat Maroon is like four hours without a meal," he added while laughing.

This isn't Edwards' first, second, or even 10th time saying something live on air that has rubbed people the wrong way. While he does have his defenders, it seems most hockey fans would put him among the worst announcers in the league, if not THE worst. Edwards has been covering the Boston Bruins for NESN in some form since the 2005-06 season.
