The Buffalo Sabres made minced meat out of the Montréal Canadiens on Tuesday night, defeating the Habs by a final score of 7-2 on their home ice. Buffalo dominated the game from the opening face-off, scoring the seventh-quickest trio of goals in NHL history to open the scoring.

Three goals is as close as the Habs would get before the Sabres blew the doors off this one. Buffalo's top line of
Alex Tuch,
Tage Thompson, and
Jeff Skinner combined for 12 points, and after Tuesday's game
Rasmus Dahlin is on pace for 100 points. Incredible.
On the other side of things,
Jake Allen surrendered 7 goals against for the first time in his 11-season NHL career. His reaction - in that light - was reasonable enough, as he did not play well in this one.
Heading into this game, the Sabres were riding an 8-game losing streak. They snapped that with style, but they have a rather difficult schedule in the week ahead. Their next five opponents, in order, are:
- vs. St. Louis Blues
- vs. New Jersey Devils
- vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
- at Detroit Red Wings
- vs. Colorado Avalanche
This has been a streaky Sabres team to start the 2022-23 season, but will they be able to run their way to the playoffs? Will they fizzle out and land a top draft pick? Or will they be good enough to avoid the basement but not enough to make the postseason?
