For a long time, it looked like the Dallas Stars and their third round pick of the 2016 draft, Fredrik Karlstrom, would go separate ways. Nevertheless, just hours before deadline, the parties announced that they had reached an agreement.

In an interview with hockeysverige.se, the two-time Swedish WJC player talks about the contract.

“It's a dream come true to sign an NHL contract, of course. We have had good contact since they drafted me four years ago, but we have had pretty close contact lately and we managed to agree on a deal. It feels good that it's done and you can focus a bit on here and now”, Karlstrom said.

“It's been pretty smooth anyway, I think. Sure, it got done on the last day, but we've had a good dialogue all the way and wanted the same thing all the way in really.”

The former 90th overall pick struggled early on in his SHL career, but after leaving Linkoping and joining Vaxjo he had a small breakout this season, finishing sixth in Vaxjo in points scoring with 10 goals and 10 assists in 52 games.
