On Monday afternoon, the Anaheim Ducks announced the signing of defenceman Kodie Curran. The deal is a two-year, one-way contract which will begin at the start of the 2020-21 season. The contract will pay Curran $1 million per season.

Curran, 30, spent the last two seasons playing for Rogle BK Angeholm of the SHL. In 48 games this year, he posted very solid numbers with 12 goals and 37 assists in just 48 games. That was an improvement on his previous season's total of 37 points in 49 games.

Curran has an interesting backstory to his hockey career, as just five seasons ago he was finishing up his fifth and final year in the CIS with the University of Calgary. Usually, players who end up in the CIS finish their playing careers after graduating, however Curran instead went professional and spent the next season in between the AHL and ECHL before heading over to Europe, where he has established himself as a major offensive threat from the back end. He will be an interesting player to keep track of over the next few seasons.
