The Boston Bruins' signing of troubled former Arizona Coyotes draft pick Mitchell Miller shocked the hockey world, and it's obvious that the drama surrounding this situation will be aplenty.
The Athletic's Aaron Portzline recently reached out to Gary Bettman to see if the Bruins consulted the league before signing the young defenseman. Bettman stated that the team did not have any communication with the NHL before the signing, and that he will need to see "a whole bunch of things" before Miller is anywhere near NHL eligible. In fact, Miller may never be eligible for the NHL....or the AHL.
Another The Athletic writer, Sean Shapiro, contacted the AHL, and the situation there remains fluid, but it does not seem likely that Miller will be cleared to play there either.
"Per our by-laws, any player under suspension to another league who seeks to play in the AHL would have the matter reviewed by the President to determine his eligibility."
It seems very unlikely that AHL President Scott Howson would be able to clear Mitchell Miller to play after reviewing the NHL's statements. There should be a decision coming soon, and Miller seemingly will not be happy.
Asked by @Aportzline, Gary Bettman said the Bruins didn't consult the league before signing Mitchell Miller.

Bettman said Miller is not eligible for the #nhl ... and is not sure he ever will be. Added the league was not consulted before #bruins signed him.— Mike Zeisberger (@Zeisberger) November 5, 2022
Reached out to the AHL. Per AHL, Miller's status right now in that league is a fluid situation.

Should Miller be allowed to play in the NHL or AHL?
