The Canadiens, who were well outside a playoff spot prior to the NHL pause, are now in because of the new 24-team playoff format the league announced. This is exciting news for the Habs players and fans alike as anything can happen come playoff time. However, the team may be forced to play without one of its best players in Domi.
Domi, 25, was born with type 1 diabetes. Because of having diabetes, he would be at higher risk than other NHL athletes if he were to catch the virus. Bergevin made it clear today that if doctors determine it would not be safe for him to play, then he won't play.
This would be a huge blow to the Habs, as Domi is one of the team's top players. Despite having a down season, he still finished third in team scoring with 44 points in 71 games. Expect to hear an announcement one way or the other in the next few weeks.
