D Cody Franson and RW Brandon Kozun have reached preliminary agreements to sign free agent contracts with Kunlun Red Star, the lone Chinese club of the KHL.

Franson, 32, who totaled 550 NHL contests with 43 goals and 169 assists, has played in the KHL for the last two years, wearing the colors of Avangard Omsk. In 98 games he had eight goals and 31 assists. His NHL tenure extended from 2009 to 2018 and included stops at Nashville, Toronto, Buffalo, and Chicago.

The 30-year-old Kozun on the other hand had just a cup of coffee with the Leafs in 2014-15, playing 20 games. He then left for the KHL, and spent the next few years representing Helsinki Jokerit, Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, and most recently, Metallurg Magnitogorsk. He has 201 points in 269 games in his KHL career. He is a three-time KHL All-Star.
