The Columbus Blue Jackets announced on Wednesday that they've called up 2022 sixth overall pick, David Jiricek, from the AHL's Cleveland Monsters.
Jiricek, 18, was off to a pretty solid start to his professional career here in North America. In five games with Cleveland, the Klatovy (Czechia) native had four assists, two penalty minutes and was a plus-two.
The reason why the Blue Jackets have called up Jiricek, along with his stellar play thus far, is because 22-year-old defenceman Adam Boqvist has been placed on injured reserve.
Boqvist will miss roughly six weeks with a broken foot, which he sustained in Tuesday's loss to Arizona. The Falun (Sweden) native has appeared in four games this season, recording no points or penalty minutes and is a minus-one.
David Jiricek could make his National Hockey League debut on Friday night when the Blue Jackets host the Boston Bruins at 7 p.m. ET.
