Washington Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic has found himself in hot water after alleged comments surfaced from his Instagram account.

The comments, which were primarily aimed at women, including the wives of other NHL athletes, displayed Leipsic using excessively derogatory, rude and misogynistic language, in addition to what some have referred to as ‘fat-shaming.'

Since the incident, the left wingers Instagram has been deactivated.

Both Leipsic and the Washington Capitals organization have issued statements regarding the situation.

Leipsic;

"Yesterday my friend's Instagram account was hacked and an individual circulated images that are representative of private conversations I was a part of. I fully recognize how inappropriate and offensive these comments are and sincerely apologize to everyone for my actions."

He added;

“ I am committed to becoming a better person by taking time to determine how to move forward in an accountable, meaningful way. I am truly sorry."

The Washington Capitals organization also issued a statement, in which they explained the organizations intent to handle the matter internally.

"We are aware of the unacceptable and offensive comments made by Brendan Leipsic in a private conversation on social media. We will handle this matter internally."

It's noteworthy that the Winnipeg native has spent time with five different organizations since 2015.
