Joe Thornton became an unrestricted free agent less than two weeks after his 43rd birthday and so far, there have been no contract offers or PTO offers, as far as anyone knows.
There have been rumours that if nothing materializes in the NHL, that Thornton could head over to Switzerland for the season, but that remains up in the air.
About a week ago, it was reported that Thornton has been skating with the San Jose Sharks, his former team, as he weighs his options for the 2022-23 season.
On Saturday, the Sharks shared a brief video of the London (Ontario) native on the ice via their Twitter account. Thornton was wearing a Sharks practice jersey, along with a new teal helmet, that was unveiled as a part of their new uniforms for the upcoming season.
Thornton has spent parts of fifteen seasons of his career in the Bay Area with the Sharks, putting up 1,055 points (251 goals, 804 assists) in 1,104 games. He helped lead the Sharks to the Western Conference Final in 2010, 2011 and 2019, as well as the Stanley Cup Final in 2016.
Do you think the Sharks should offer Thornton a professional tryout contract? Let us know in the poll below!
