Prior to the season going on pause, Jack Eichel was playing phenomenal for the Buffalo Sabres. The second overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft had 36 goals and 78 points in just 68 games despite playing on a bad Sabres team, which had fans and players alike taking notice.

In fact, Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele went as far as to say he believes Eichel should win the Hart Trophy for the 2019-20 season.

“Whenever we play Buffalo, he's the first guy we look to try to nullify,” Mark Scheifele wrote for a Players' Tribune article. “He's a monster in the offensive end and an absolute pain to play against when you're trying to score. He can do it all. He's one of the most complete forwards in the game. And he doesn't take a shift off.”

Scheifele noted that although there were many players around the league who are deserving of the trophy, Eichel is his frontrunner.

“I've been watching a lot of the Sabres this year whenever I get the time because of how dominant he is when he's on the ice” Scheifele said. “Every time he steps out there he seems like he's just got another gear over everyone else. To do that night in and night out? That's impressive.”

What makes Eichel's 78 points this season even more impressive is that the second highest scorer on the Sabres is Sam Reinhart with 50. The 23-year-old also went on a season best 17 game point-streak.

In the article, Scheifele also named Quinn Hughes as his pick for the Calder Trophy, and teammate Connor Hellebuyck for the Vezina Trophy.
