The Senators are just a few days away from shoring up their blue line with 24-year-old Artyom Zub. With his contract officially expiring April 30th, The Athletic is reporting that Zub has made a verbal commitment to the Sens. His agent, Dan Milstein, has declined comment.

Zub went undrafted and relatively unnoticed by NHL teams, but has forced himself into an NHL contract with a magnificent breakout season with SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL. He tied for second among defensemen with 13 goals, and tied for the league lead with +35 rating. At 6'2", nearly 200 lbs, Zub is can expect to contend for as high as second defensive pair, with only Nikita Zaitsev ahead of his on the depth chart as a right-handed d-man.
