Just two years after breaking his back in the horrific crash involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, Graysen Cameron has signed with a college in the U.S. to continue his hockey career.

“I'm proud to announce my commitment to Northland College,” Cameron tweeted. “Thanks to all my coaches, trainers, teammates, friends, the Humboldt Broncos and most importantly all my family for helping me over the last year and a half get back on the ice and play… Dream come true.”

The 20-year-old had a long path to getting back on the ice, including working with trainers of the Calgary Flames and a stop as an assistant coach with the Red Deer Midget AAA Optimist Chiefs before once more trying out for, and earning his spot on, the Broncos this past season.

Cameron scored five goals and added eight assists in 46 games for Humboldt this past season. His hard-nosed style of hockey led the team to a playoff berth in the SJHL. The Broncos would be eliminated by the top-seeded Flin Flon Bombers.

The Broncos were quick to congratulate Cameron, saying "his dedication, work ethic and leadership is above anything you could ever ask for."

The 2018 bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos claimed 16 lives and injured 13 others.
