Originally drafted in the seventh round by the Atlanta Thrashers, Redmond would make his NHL debut with the Winnipeg Jets in 2012-13. Following that, he spent two seasons with the Colorado Avalanche before signing with the Montreal Canadiens in 2016. He was traded to the Buffalo Sabres for Nicolas Deslauriers on October 4th, 2017 and was immediately reassigned to the Rochester Americans of the AHL. That's where he would spend most of his time while with the Sabres' organization, playing just three games in total for Buffalo, all in 2017-18. In 2018-19, he would score 21 goals for Rochester, breaking a franchise record for most goals in a season by a defenceman set by Rick Pagnutti in 1972-73.
"Moving to Europe is a very good opportunity for me and my family, both from a sporting and private point of view, [and] to gain new experiences," Redmond said in a news release on Munich's website. “I only heard great things about the club, the city of Munich and the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). In addition, the organization always has the aspiration to become champions."
Redmond played a total of 133 games in the NHL over the course of his career, scoring nine goals and 38 points. His new contract with Red Bull Munich will kick in whenever the 2020-21 season begins.
