Connor McDavid's Lowest Goals per 60 Over His Career is Against...the Buffalo Sabres?
Your eyes are not broken, the Buffalo Sabres have been the best team in the NHL at neutralizing the league's best player, Connor McDavid. Despite yielding horrendous results for the past decade, the Sabres have proven to have success at stopping Connor McDavid from activating the red light behind the goal, which is a success story in and of itself. If you aren't going to achieve anything of formal value, you have to take the victories as they come.

2021-22 is at least somewhat explicable, as the Sabres were actually somewhat decent at suppressing chances, but they have still been mediocre team against whom the NHL's most gifted scorer can't score. Pretty wild statistic.
In 11 games against the Sabres, McDavid has managed just 11 points, eight of which were at even strength. Well below his career pace of 1.43 points per game. Buffalo is one of four teams to keep McDavid at one point per game or fewer.
Oddly enough, another team who McDavid struggles to score against is the Chicago Blackhawks. McDavid has actually been outscored against the Blackhawks over his career, which seemed impossible before learning of this statistic:
Edmonton's captain will probably reverse that statistic in this season alone, as the Blackhawks are going to absolutely stink after stripping anything of value off their whole roster. Well, with the exception of Seth Jones, Jonathan Toews, and Patrick Kane, who is connected to a new team every day it seems.
Even though this statistic comes as a shock, I can think of 12.5 million reasons why McDavid couldn't care less. The Oilers also just got swept out of the Western Conference Finals, so bigger fish to fry for the NHL's best player.
