Vegas Golden Knights Acquire Goaltender from San Jose Sharks
The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired G Adin Hill from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 4th round pick in 2024:
Not long ago, Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon assured us that he would be heading into the season with the trio of Laurent Brossoit (currently on IR), Logan Thompson and Michael Hutchinson, which precisely zero people believed to be the truth.
The Golden Knights will be without starting goalie Robin Lehner for the duration of 2022-23, so they desperately needed one. Hill is coming off a solid season with San Jose, sporting a 2.66 GAA and .906 SV% with a 10-11-1 record. The team in front of him will be much better in Vegas than San Jose, but there is still no clear starter for the Golden Knights, so this trade hardly provides certainty at the position.
Hill is just entering his prime, and he has proven to be a capable goaltender despite playing for solely bottom-feeding teams. He was initially a 3rd round pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2015 and never played behind a team you could call objectively good. He was traded to the Sharks before the '21-22 season, and they didn't exactly field a competitive group either.
So, I am intrigued by the addition, and I would not be surprised if Hill had a breakout season for the Golden Knights, who still boast a very strong team (assuming injuries do not pile up yet again). On the other hand, do not be shocked if Vegas' goaltending proves to be a problem.
