A new report says police in Halifax, Nova Scotia now have the names of two players from Canada's 2003 World Juniors hockey team who were allegedly involved in a sexual assault on a woman who was passed out. The report, from CBC News, cites a source who saw a recording of the incident and recognized both players.

"[The video] made me sick to my stomach," the source told CBC News. "I knew what I was watching was wrong.

"I recognized two of the players and both of them went on to have NHL careers."

The source said he personally gave the names to police. CBC is keeping his name under wraps by request for fear of both personal and professional negative repercussions. He said he recognized the player holding the camera, adding the player turned the camera on himself and said "this is going to be a f—ing lamb roast". He added that he recognized a second player who was standing just outside the room where the video was being filmed. He told CBC the video shows five or six players, one of them penetrating the woman while the others masturbated while waiting for their turn.

"Her head was turned to the side and she wasn't active

The source told CBC News he didn't report the video nearly 20 years ago because he was raised to "shut up" and "say nothing." The camera itself, according to an earlier report by TSN, was lent to the operator by someone else, who found the video once it was returned. It was shown to at least two other people by the camera's owner.

"All I knew for myself back then was that it was wrong," the source said. "I didn't know these kinds of things got reported to police."

Hockey Canada has been hit with major scandals recently. One of them involved members of Canada's gold medal-winning team from the World Juniors in 2018. In that incident, a lawsuit was filed by the victim, with a settlement coming from the organization. Shortly after that, the video reportedly recorded at the World Juniors in Halifax in 2003. No one has ever been charged in either case. In the meantime, Hockey Canada has lost several of its major sponsors, and had to have officials testify before a parliamentary committee.
