Ovechkin focused on winning another Stanley Cup before career is over, not beating Gretzky's record
Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin has one main goal he wants to accomplish before his career is over, winning another Stanley Cup.
In an interview with Russian media outlet, Match TV, Ovechkin said that he wants to win another Stanley Cup and that breaking Wayne Gretzky's goals record is not something he is focusing on as a priority.

He added, "The most important thing is that there are no injuries, and for the team to perform in such a way as to get into the playoffs. The team result is our number one priority."
Ovechkin, 36, has four years remaining on his contract and will have ample opportunity to not only win another Stanley Cup, but also break Wayne Gretzky's record.
The Moscow native currently has 780 goals in his career, good enough for third on the NHL's all-time goals list. If he plans on breaking the record, he'll need 115 more goals, which over four seasons averages out to 28.75 goals per season.
Washington's window of opportunity was looking like it was going to come to a close in recent years, but after the signing of Stanley Cup champion netminder Darcy Kuemper, trading for Connor Brown and adding former third overall pick Dylan Strome, it appears that they may be able to contend for at least a couple more years.
