The community of Battleford, Saskatchewan is planning a show of support for the family of Colby Cave as his body is returned to the area in preparation for his funeral. A note obtained by Claire Hanna of CTV asks those in the community who are able and willing to form a line of vehicles on the westbound shoulder of Highway 16 to make sure the Cave family knows the community is with them.

“Wear your hockey jerseys, or make up signs and whatever you feel in letting Al, Jen, Taylor and the rest of the family know we are thinking of them in this time of need,” the note reads. It also reminds people to respect social distancing rules.

From there, the local RCMP and fire department will lead the family home.

Cave died early Saturday morning after suffering a brain bleed earlier in the week and undergoing surgery to remove a cyst. The 25-year-old most recently played for the Edmonton Oilers but also suited up for the Boston Bruins during his hockey career.
