After five years of trying to break into a regular spot in the NHL, Nikolay Goldobin has left the Canucks organization for CSKA Moscow of the KHL.

In 2014, the San Jose Sharks took Goldobin 27th overall in the first round. After a total of 11 games with the Sharks, he was traded to the Canucks in 2017. He made every effort to become a Vancouver regular, and seemed to break through in 2018-19 season, when he put up 27 points in 63 games with the Canucks. Sadly, after signing for $900k for the 2019-20 season, Goldobin saw only one game with the big club, spending 51 games down in Utica of the AHL, compiling 50 points, (tied for 10th in the AHL).

Now Goldobin, as a RFA as far as the NHL is concerned has signed in Russia, with a 2-year deal worth 50 million rubles a year (roughly 677k USD). Goldobin is a Moscow native, so this is a homecoming for him. Given the fact that's averaged 0.88 points-per-game in his AHL career, the 24-year-old winger could become one of the KHL's younger stars and raise his value when his contract expires.
