Ilya Sorokin's agent says he's making the jump to the NHL

Goaltender Ilya Sorokin, who has been putting up outstanding numbers in the KHL for the last six season, is ready to make the jump to the NHL. His agent, Shumi Babayev, posted on Twitter that Sorokin will be signing a contract with the New York Islanders for next season.

Sorokin was drafted in the third round, 78th overall, by the Islanders in 2014. In 2017, he signed a new three-year deal with CSKA Moscow, the only team he's played with in the KHL. In 2019, Sorokin won the Gagarin Cup with CSKA Moscow, also earning the honor of Gagarin Cup Playoffs MVP.

Sorokin's KHL numbers have been fantastic. He played 40 games in 2019-20, posting a goals against average of 1.50 and a .935 save percentage. In 245 career games in the KHL, he has 135 wins, a 1.69 GAA and a .930 save percentage. He won a gold medal with the Olympic Athletes of Russia at the 2018 Winter Games and a silver medal at the World Juniors in 2015.

The New York Islanders had Semyon Varlamov this season, who is under contract until the end of 2023-24. Thomas Greiss becomes a free agent on July 1st, provided things remain the same given the shutdown
