Korchinski, 18, was selected seventh overall last month, a pick that was acquired by the Blackhawks from Ottawa in the Alex DeBrincat trade. Going into the draft, Korchinski was seventh among North American skaters in the final NHL Central Scouting rankings after being 20th in the mid-term rankings.
The Saskatoon native had an unbelievable year in the Western Hockey League with the Seattle Thunderbirds. Korchinski was nearly a point-per-game player, putting up 65 points (four goals, 61 assists), 40 penalty minutes and was a plus-36 in 67 games. He went on to add nineteen points (six goals, thirteen assists) in 25 playoff games.
As Kyle Davidson mentioned, Korchinski will head back to Seattle for the 2022-23 season, where he will look to build off his success from last year. He'll also likely be on Hockey Canada's radar for the 2023 World Juniors in December.
