April 5, 2020 represented the official end of the 2019-2020 NHL season, but with the circumstances of COVID-19, things have changed. However, for the Detroit Red Wings, one thing is certain, this season is to be forgotten. In 61 games, the Wings have just 17 wins for a total of 39 points out of a possible 122 (17-49-5). Unsurprisingly, Jeff Blashill's troop was last in the NHL, 23 points behind their closest chasers, the Ottawa Senators.

In the coming weeks, the ex-captain and new GM Steve Yzerman will have several important decisions to make for the future of his team. One of those decisions will be whether to keep his head coach, Jeff Blashill.

Blashill's five-year contract in Detroit has now come to an end and Yzerman will have to decide whether or not he keeps him. It will be a difficult decision, but Yzerman doesn't want to put all of his team's problems on the back of his coach. He knows that Blashill didn't have the most dominant roster in his hands.

"It would be unfair to judge Jeff Blashill on the team record, said Yzerman." I put this team in place and I obviously had expectations. Honestly, I don't think it's a team that has what it takes to make the playoffs. At least, not yet."

"When I got there, we talked about the team, what I could expect and what we could accomplish. Certainly, I really enjoyed working with him."

In 399 games as Detroit Red Wings head coach, Blashill has made the playoffs once, with a combined record of 153 wins, 194 losses and 32 more in overtime.
