With the world in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, sports fans have been hit hard with pretty much every major league shutting down. There has been tons of speculation on when hockey, basketball, baseball and others might return or get underway, but one Canadian doctor says that's not where people's priorities should be right now.

In an interview with TSN's Rick Westhead, Dr. Alan Drummond of the Canadian Association of Emergency Room Physicians had this to say:

"Nobody gives a sh-- right now. There's only one focus in the entire world right now. I love sports as much as anyone, but this is not really the time. At the end of the day, sports is a means of entertainment played by well paid athletes for the pleasure of all of us. It can be a great unifier and a distraction. We are probably in the fight of our lives. This is time for us to concentrate on one thing and one thing only: COVID-19. Frankly, for the protection of our staff, we do not want some kid who just spent five hours flying in a tin can from the west coast to Ottawa to come and threaten the well-being of our staff with potential COVID."

Dr. Drummond also had a suggestion on what to do with hockey arenas in Canada.

"Better to turn hockey arenas into makeshift hospitals or morgues."
