Chicago Blackhawks home arena to serve as COVID-19 Emergency Relief Hub

As the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak continues to spread throughout the Chicago area, the United Center, home to the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL) and Chicago Bulls (NBA), has joined in to aid in the pandemic.

The arena, which holds a capacity of 23,500 people, is currently being transformed into a logistics hub for first responder staging, the collection of medical supplies and food distribution to those affected by the virus.

The United Center released a statement Wednesday afternoon, making the following official announcement;

As Illinois goes through this together, the United Center, home of the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks, is proud to be playing a critical role with our city, state and federal response to the pandemic. Our arena and outside campus will be transformed into a logistics hub where we will be assisting front line food distribution, first responder staging and the collection of critically needed medical supplies.

On behalf of the Chicago Bulls, Chicago Blackhawks, our athletes, our front offices and our dedicated United Center personnel, our thoughts and support are with the people of this great city and state. Together, we will get through this.

At this time, Illinois officials have confirmed 1,535 total cases statewide. Citizens have been advised to follow ‘stay-at-home' procedures, only leaving their residence when absolutely necessary.
