NHL extends self-quarantine period for players
In a move that likely comes as a surprise to no one, the NHL has decided to extend the period of self-quarantine that all league players are expected to go through, whether they are showing symptoms of COVID-19 or not.
According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the league held a conference call with general managers on Tuesday and told them players must now self-quarantine for 10 days longer than the initial requirement of March 27th. This means the stay-at-home period for NHL players will now end on April 7th.
As for what else was discussed during the call, LeBrun said it was a general update. While many GMs had questions regarding the draft (including the combine and lottery), the schedule and playoffs, as well as free agency, they were told it's simply too early for any concrete decisions yet.
Tuesday's call with GMs follows a similar conference call Monday with the league's Board of Governors. Whether hockey returns this season or not, the NHL has a lot of work to do when it comes to the key issues mentioned above. There will be no solution to any items that will please everyone.
