According to Frank Seravalli of DailyFaceoff, the Winnipeg Jets are exploring the trade market for captain Blake Wheeler.

"Sources say the Jets have begun to explore the market and engage with teams on the possibility of moving Wheeler, the franchise stalwart and last remaining holdover from the Atlanta Thrashers days," Seravalli said.

He added, "Wheeler has complete control over his destination until July 1, when his full "no-move" clause converts into a five-team list to which he'd accept a trade. The early sense is Wheeler may be willing to consider a proposed destination that also is not on his list, if it's a proper fit for his family and career. Will his cap hit prove difficult to move? Maybe not. Wheeler could be the missing piece for a contending team as a point-per-game, play-driving winger with size and heart."

Wheeler, 31, has been with the the organization since 2010, when they were known as the Atlanta Thrashers, and has played in all eleven seasons with the Jets since they moved to Winnipeg. Prior to the 2016-17 season, Wheeler was named captain of the Jets.

The Plymouth (Minnesota) native has two-years remaining on his contract with a cap hit of $8.25 million per season. In 65 games this season, the 35-year-old put up 60 points (17 goals, 43 assists), 36 penalty minutes and was a minus-fifteen.
