This is extremely unfortunate for the Oilers, as Kane fit in like a glove after signing a deal in January. The 30-year-old was fantastic alongside Connor McDavid during the regular season with 22 goals and 39 points in 43 games, and even better in the playoffs with 13 goals and 17 points in just 15 outings. Given his great production, some of the Oilers top stars in McDavid as well as Leon Draisaitl were quite vocal when it came to the fact they wanted Kane back for the 2022-23 campaign.
While Holland said he would continue to talk to Kane's agent in hopes of a solution, it isn't likely they are able to come to one. This is likely Kane's last chance to cash in on a long-term, lucrative deal, and he seems eager to do so. With how well he performed during his short stint with the Oilers, he could command north of $7 million per year on the open market.
