Gretzky's last Oilers jersey sells for an astronomical price at auction

When Wayne Gretzky suited up in Game 5 of the 1988 Stanley Cup Final, he likely didn't envision that it would be his last as an Edmonton Oiler. Later that summer, Gretzky would end up being dealt to the Los Angeles Kings is a massive deal.

On Sunday, Gretzky's last Edmonton Oilers jersey sold at Grey Flannel Auction for a record-breaking $1.452 million USD. The previous record was Paul Henderson's 1972 Summit Series jersey for $1.3 million USD.

Gretzky had an incredible run during the 1988 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he recorded 43 points (twelve goals, 31 assists) in nineteen games and won the Conn Smythe Trophy. The 1988 playoffs also marked Gretzky's fourth and final Stanley Cup win of his illustrious career.
