The Minnesota Wild will be getting a little bit of compensation for not being able to sign a player.

According to The Athletic's Michael Russo, the Wild will not be signing 2018 first-round pick Filip Johansson by tomorrow's deadline. This means the team will receive a compensatory second-round pick (56th overall) for the 2022 NHL Draft taking place July 8 in Montreal.

The team attempted to sign him but a deal could not be reached, so they are not just getting a pick because they chose not to sign him. The compensatory pick is 31 slots after their first-round pick, relative to their place in the overall standings.

Minnesota will now have two second-round picks in the draft, but one of them possibly could be used as trade bait or as a sweetener in a deal, especially with the team's salary cap issues.
