Game 1 between the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers had no shortage of storylines:

Ryan Lindgren threw a devastating hit on Rickard Rakell. Lindgren was given a two-minute penalty, and Rakell did not return to the game. His status is uncertain for Game 2.

Sidney Crosby passed both Sergei Fedorov and Jaromir Jagr for 8th all time on the playoff assists list notching #123 and #124 on assists to Jake Guentzel.

Lindgren was injured later in the game blocking a shot, but eventually returned to the game.

Penguins netminder Casey DeSmith exits halfway through 2OT supposedly with cramps. He was replaced by 3rd string goaltender Louis Dominique, who proceeded to make 17 saves. Rangers emergency backup goaltender (EBUG) Reid Robertson was ready to go on the Penguins bench, just in case.

Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin came up just six saves short of the all-time playoff record for saves in a single game (85) making 79 total saves. The Vezina favorite finished the night with a solid .952 save percentage.

Evgeni Malkin won it for the Penguins on a deflected shot from John Marino 05:58 in 3OT. This is Malkin's 13th playoff GWG of his career and his 2nd OT playoff goal.

If Game 2 is anything like Game 1, it is a must watch game Thursday evening at 7pm EST.
