Ovechkin making progress, still out tonight versus Islanders

The Washington Capitals received some good news on Thursday, as it sounds like Alex Ovechkin's injury is not super serious, and he could be nearing a return.

Ovechkin was recently injured during the Capitals 4-3 shootout loss versus the Toronto Maple Leafs. Ovechkin was tripped and collided with the boards end boards awkwardly, causing an upper-body injury.

The Washington Post's Samantha Pell reported that Ovechkin was on the ice in a normal jersey for practice this morning. There were thoughts of him playing tonight, but ultimately he was still ruled out. Ovechkin should be well in line to play in the team's opening playoff game by the sounds of his speedy recovery.
