Both of these men have deep roots to the city of Seattle, so this is a great PR move for the Kraken. Two big names who carry a ton of weight in Seattle, this could be a unique opportunity to grow their brand in the Pacific Northwest.
The Kraken often draw comparisons to the other expansion team, the Vegas Golden Knights. However, the Knights were a unicorn. They were the first expansion team in almost 20 years, so GMs league-wide were chartering unknown waters. Which can explain, at least partially, why they had such great success on the ice.
Off the ice, however, was less of a mystery. It is Las Vegas. Enough said. But the Kraken's on-ice product fell short probably because GMs went into the expansion draft prepared this time, so no one really got fleeced. That said, GM Ron Francis probably should have just taken Tarasenko.
The Kraken's off-ice approach was more focused on grassroots & building a storied franchise from scratch, rather than go all in from the start like their recent predecessors. So the addition of Macklemore & Marshawn Lynch aim to be a catalyst for community-driven growth.
Also, Marshawn Lynch is a human content machine, remember when he hijacked a golf cart in a college football game?
Well, he's graduated from golf cart to Zamboni now:
