Leaked transcript shows why Niagara IceDogs owners suspended
The Ontario Hockey League dropped a bit of a bomb shell earlier this week when it fined the Niagara IceDogs $150,000, while owners Billy and Joey Burke were suspended indefinitely and cannot apply for reinstatement until 2024. Many wondered exactly what had happened. The league would only say there was inappropriate conduct on a WhatsApp chat group used by the Burkes. A leaked transcript posted in several places on the internet now shows exactly why the suspension came about.
The Burkes were upset that their team had won a game 4-0, but the league decided to show just one of the goals that had been scored in a highlight reel. Here's the screenshot of the chat group:
Needless to say, some of the terms used here simply don't fly in today's world, nor should they. Following the leak of the transcript, the Burkes released a statement through the IceDogs social media account.
