Late in the third period, Ducks rookie Trevor Zegras thought the puck was loose and poked at Coyotes goaltender Josef Korenar. Coyotes forward Jay Beagle then delivered an aggressive cross-check to Zegras' lower back, which caused him to fall to the ice in some discomfort. Zegras' teammate and Ducks top scorer, Troy Terry, came to his defence and got into a fight with Beagle, but the Coyotes forward wouldn't let up against the unmatched opponent, leaving the 23-year-old with cuts to his face.
After the game, Zegras didn't hold back in his presser, saying that it was humiliating and that Beagle should be punished. But, the NHL Department of Player Safety didn't seem to agree and Beagle didn't receive any supplemental discipline.
On Saturday, Ducks legend and Hockey Hall of Famer, Teemu Selanne, took to Twitter to share his displeasure with the incident, saying that he doesn't like to see Anaheim's young stars being pushed around.
The two teams won't meet again for the rest of the season, but their first game against each other in the 2022-23 campaign will be a must-watch.
