DeBrusk could help Bruins get trade done by signing contract extension
During Tuesday's edition of Insider Trading on TSN, Pierre LeBrun mentioned that Rick Valette, Jake DeBrusk's agent, has informed teams that his client is willing to sign a contract extension to facilitate a trade away from the Boston Bruins. One concern teams have is DeBrusk's qualifying offer of $4.4 million.
DeBrusk requested a trade from the Bruins back in late-November and his play of late could accelerate a deal. During Boston's 7-0 win over Los Angeles on Monday night, the 25-year-old recorded a hat trick.
"After speaking with DeBrusk's agent, Rick Valette, there has not been a change of heart. This means the trade demand is still in place for DeBrusk, to hopefully, in his case, get a trade out of Boston by the March 21 trade deadline.
The other thing Valette talked about is that he has informed teams, by the way he has permission to talk directly to other teams, that they're willing to work on an extension to help facilitate a deal. A lot of teams are concerned about the $4.4 million qualifying offer to retain his rights this summer, maybe [if there's] an extension at a cheaper price everyone will go home happy.
Bottom line is if he keeps scoring and playing a bigger role, it might help the Bruins and general manager Don Sweeney get better offers than they've had to date." LeBrun said.

DeBrusk, a native of Edmonton, has appeared in 48 games this season for the Bruins. In those 48 games, he's recorded twenty-four points (fourteen goals, ten assists), six penalty minutes and is a minus-one.
