Filmmaker (and, of course, rockstar) Rob Zombie recently appeared on Joe Rogan's podcast where he talked about a movie he really wanted to make called "Broad Street Bullies", essentially the true story of the Philadelphia Flyers from the 1970s. Rogan asked Zombie if there had been any films that he wanted to do that he hadn't done yet. Zombie responded that there were two, and immediately talked about the failed Flyers movie.

"It was about the 1974 Philadelphia Flyers. The true story is so insane that you can't believe it's real. They were a fledgling team, nobody cared, so they basically built the team of tough guys. They won the Stanley Cup twice based on being so terrorizing other team were scared to play them."

"You go back and you watch the fights that took place during those seasons, they literally went into the crowd and they're fighting with fans. And it doesn't seem like good-natured, like 'we're going to go, we're going to go', it's like gripping someone by the hair and punching them in the face until their teeth are all gone type fighting."

If you've watched any of Zombie's previous movies, it's not hard to see why something like this would appeal to the filmmaker. Pretty much everything he does is heavy on violence. Unfortunately, he says he kept trying to make a go of it, but could never get it off the ground. Zombie adds it went as far as him going to Philadelphia and getting access to the team's video archives, but "it wouldn't move."

"I don't know if the team and the team owners want to glorify that time."

Zombie also talks about wanting to be a hockey players as a little kid, calling players "the toughest motherf------," and having season tickets for the LA Kings with his wife for several seasons, including hanging out with the team and having them over to his house for parties. He says he admires hockey players for their toughness.

"They're like, mental," said Zombie. Who else is skating into boards at 90 miles per hour that have, like, no give?"
