This afternoon the Seattle Kraken are set to have a press conference where they will announce their first head coach in franchise history, though we may already know who it is.
According to both Pierre LeBrun and Darren Dreger of TSN, it sounds as though Dave Hakstol, who is most known for being the head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers for parts of four seasons, will land the job. This is certainly an off-the-board selection as most viewed Rick Tocchet as the frontrunner, with names like David Quinn and Tony Granato also being on people's radar.
UPDATE: The Kraken have now made it official that Hakstol is the first ever head coach in the team's history.
Hakstol, 52, has a very lengthy coaching history. He coached the University of North Dakota for 15 straight seasons before agreeing to become the head coach of the Flyers for the 2015-16 season. He remained with the Flyers for three full seasons, but was let go just 31 games into his fourth year after the team got off to a 12-15-4 start. He has since spent the last two seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs as an assistant coach, mostly concentrating on the team's penalty kill.
