After retiring as a player in 2015, Daniel Briere immediately joined the front office of the Philadelphia Flyers, taking on a few different roles. In 2017, he was appointed to run the day-to-day operations of the ECHL's Maine Mariners, a team that had been purchased by the Flyers' owners Comcast Spectacor. But, it looks like Briere has higher aspirations when it comes to being a hockey executive.

In an interview with Radio-Canada in his home province of Quebec, Briere revealed that he is pursuing a master's degree in business administration at the prestigious Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. The school's alumni include Elon Musk, Warren Buffet, and New York Mets new owner Steve Cohen.

"Wharton is to finance what Harvard Law School is to the legal field ," said Briere proudly.

It was the Flyers' business president Valerie Camillo who approached Briere about getting a degree.

"What scared me the most was going back to class and being irrelevant or looking crazy," said Briere. "But the challenge was interesting. I wanted to learn. And I absolutely do not regret having done so."

While he doesn't come right out and say it, Briere indicated that Wharton is a school that NHL GMs attend.

"I can't name names, but I know several NHL GMs took this course in Wharton", he said.Briere also revealed that he will be taking a course in negotiations from the school beginning in 2021, a field that it is a must to master in order to become a successful NHL GM.

Briere played a total of 973 games in the NHL, recording 307 goals and 696 points while suiting up for Phoenix, Buffalo, Philadelphia, Montreal and Colorado.
