Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov has had a difficult transition into the NHL. After being forced to stay home in Russia he has now been banned from international competition for breach of contract.

In May of 2022, the Philadelphia Flyers had a contract agreement with Ivan Fedotov to come play in the NHL. Despite this agreement, his KHL CSKA Moscow forced him to stay with them by having him serve mandatory military service. As a result of this whole ordeal both Ivan Fedotov and CSKA Moscow are going to be punished.

The first punishment goes to Ivan Fedotov himself who will be banned from playing for Russia in IIHF-sanctioned events for 3 seasons. As of now Russia is banned from IIHF events so this doesn't change much unless Russia is allowed back.

The IIHF levied sanctions against goaltender Ivan Fedotov, CSKA Moscow, & Russian Federation today.

Fedotov is suspended from playing in any international competition for 3 years.

The IIHF has ruled playing in the KHL this season violated his NHL contract with the Flyers.

As for the Russian Hockey Federation, they have been fined 1 million Swiss francs (approximately 100.5 million rubles ~1.08M USD) for their actions. This is a major fine that will now be appealed by the Russians.

The IIHF Disciplinary Committee decided that #LetsGoFlyers Ivan Fedotov's performance for CSKA Moscow last season was in violation of the IIHF international transfer rules.

Either way, Ivan Fedotov is now in North America and thriving in his time with the Philadelphia Flyers. He also likely is not one of the first options for Russia in the net anyways if they were allowed back by the IIHF. This could however effect the way that KHL teams handle the signing of players from Russia to the NHL in the future.
