Before the start of the 2019-20 season there was a lot of hype around the New Jersey Devils and the potential for a turn around season. After acquiring only 72 points in 2018-19, finishing near last overall and unable to qualify for a playoff spot, some big name offseason acquisitions seemed to be brightening the horizon for Devils fans. New Jersey acquired defensive superstar P.K. Subban from Nashville, signed Nikita Gusev, and capitalized on their draft lottery luck, drafting Jack Hughes as the number one overall pick. Things seemed to be looking up for the Devils.

Fast forward to opening day, The Devils take the ice with a strong first two periods, grabbing a 4-1 lead to start the
third, a lead they would give up to the Winnipeg Jets before the end of regulation, leading to a 4-4 tie headed into overtime. The Jets would go on to finish the comeback with a 5-4 shootout victory. Unfortunately for New Jersey and their fans, things would only continue to worsen from there.

Since dropping their first game of the season, the Devils have lost 5 consecutive games and been outscored 29 to 16. Their troubles include a 7-2 loss to the Buffalo Sabres and another blown lead to the Florida Panthers on Monday, losing 6-4. They currently stand as the only team in the eastern conference that have yet to win a game since the start of the regular season.

There inability to score isn't the only problem being faced in New Jersey. It seems as though they have troubles on the defensive side of the ice as well, as keeping pucks out of the net has not been their strong suit thus far. With a large number of highly regarded, top name players, fans have began pointing fingers at the coaching staff. John Hynes, head coach of the New Jersey Devils since June 2nd, 2015, has found himself on the hot seat for a lack of overall production from his team. Hynes, who just signed a multi-year extension with the Devils earlier this year, has only led the team to one playoff berth going into his 5th season as head coach, squeaking them in as a wild card in the 2017-18 season.

Unfortunately, in all other seasons since 2015, the Devils have finished either 7th or 8th in the Metropolitan division. Fans have now started to question his future in New Jersey and whether or not the Devils have the potential to become a winning team this season. After losing Monday's game to Florida, and blowing another 4-1 lead, fans took to twitter with statements regarding the termination of Hynes from his position as head coach.
