Kane had been sent to the San Jose Barracuda by the Sharks as the team attempted to find a trade partner. On December 22nd, Kane was placed in COVID protocol and hasn't played since. Barracuda coach Roy Sommer says he has no idea when Kane will be back.

"I don't know. I haven't heard. It's kind of out of my hands. I don't know when he's gonna be back," said Sommer.

According to San Jose Hockey Now, Kane dealt with a tough of COVID. While he is no longer showing active symptoms, he had a "bad" case and is still feeling the effects.

Update: San Jose Sharks announce they are terminating Evander Kane's contract for break of COVID protocol

Kane has put up two goals and 8 points in six games with the Barracuda so far. He was sent to the AHL after serving a 21 game suspension for issuing a fake COVID-19 vaccination card to the San Jose Sharks. He has since stated that he is fully vaccinated.
