Tuukka Rask was set to return to the crease on Friday night after he signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) with the Providence Bruins on Thursday. COVID-19 threw a wrench in those plans and both of Providence's games this weekend have been postponed, with their next game not scheduled until Friday, January 14th at home against Hartford.

In an interview with Ilta-Sanomat, Rask spoke about his upcoming return, saying that his reason he wants to be back is not money related.

"There's no money behind it. If that were the case, I would probably have gone somewhere else," Rask said. "And no multi-year agreement. Now let's look at this season here and then let's see what happens next."

When asked about the likelihood of playing elsewhere following the 2021-22 season, Rask responded with, "Everything is always possible. Nothing needs to be ruled out."

Rask, 34, had off-season surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip and he realizes that his hip won't be the same as before, but it's still playable as he says in his interview.

"Now it's really good. I immediately noticed that the hip is much better than before the surgery. You can't get anything new from it, but now I can at least play," he said.

The Savonlinna, Finland will more than likely Boston's starter down the stretch and into the Stanley Cup Playoffs if he's able to get back to the level the Bruins want him at. If Rask does regain the crease in Boston, then the Bruins will have an interesting situation to deal with when it comes to the backup role.

29-year-old Linus Ullmark has played well this season, putting up a 9-5-0 record with a 2.59 G.A.A. While 23-year-old Jeremy Swayman has probably been the better of the tandem, having a record of 8-6-2 with a 2.26 G.A.A. and one shutout. Trading Ullmark near the March 21st deadline is the most logical option for Bruins general manager Don Sweeney.
