O'Reilly, Krug question testing for vaccinated, asymptomatic players

The St. Louis Blues are one of many teams who have been affected by COVID-19 lately, as they were forced to postpone two of their games on Dec. 21 and Dec. 23 due to cross border travel.

This situation is irritating a lot of players given that they are fully vaccinated. On top of that, there are several who are asymptomatic, which is causing them to question why they can't play. Many players have voiced frustrations, as did Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman, who believes players should only be getting tested if they show symptoms, something that Blues forward Ryan O'Reilly clearly agrees with.

«I agree with those guys. We've got guys vaccinated, double vaccinated. Some guys aren't showing any symptoms and they're popping in COVID protocol. I think I'd like to see testing if you have symptoms but it's not up to me. It's a league and players decision. Hopefully we can figure this out because it's frustrating. We want to keep this going, the season and playing it, but with the way things are working out, the safety's the concern. It would be nice to kind of figure it out.»

He wasn't the lone Blues player to voice his frustration either. His teammate in Torey Krug brought up the fact that his teammates who currently have the virus are feeling little to no symptoms.

«Most of the guys that are testing positive are sitting at home with not many symptoms and feel pretty good and comfortable to play."

«There's a cold going around that guys have felt much worse with.»

This is an extremely frustrating situation, and one that no one seems to have an answer for. Hopefully this recent surge will soon slow down and things can slowly get back to normal, though whether or not that happens remains to be seen.
